Dropbox

I’ve just signed up for Dropbox. I hope that it might be a useful academic tool. There are two reasons for this hope: first, it is a nice way to get some off-site storage, and so pre-empt the nightmare scenario where my due-in-tomorrow PhD thesis ceases to exist concretely owing to fire/ flood/ nominalist vandalism. Second, it means that I can work on my thesis no matter which computer is in front of me, given only an internet connection, and this without needing to remember to carry a flash drive.

I had a few installation issues installing on my desktop, since the Linux support for Dropbox (excellent that this exists at all, of course) is geared towards the Nautilus file manager for GNOME, whereas I am running KDE. There are few tech problems, however, which cannot be solved by recourse to the internet..

If anyone wants to follow my lead, I’m very happy to send out invites. Email me or something.
